In occupied Kashmir, Tehreek-e-Hurriyat Jammu and Kashmir Chairman, Muhammad Ashraf Sehrai has welcomed Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan for supporting the right to self-determination of the Kashmiri people, granted by the United Nations.
Muhammad Ashraf Sehrai in a statement issued in Srinagar said the joint statement by Recep Tayyip Erdogan and Pakistani Prime Minister Imran Khan was a source of strength for the people of Kashmir and would encourage them towards carrying forward their struggle for self-determination.
However, he said, merely issuing statements and occasional condemnation are not going to yield desired results and advised the government of Pakistan to activate its diplomats to appraise the world about the oppression unleashed by Indian state in occupied Kashmir.
He said, the absence of global criticism over the prevailing situation in Kashmir is highly condemnable as decade-old issue and rights violations in Kashmir have claimed or ruined numerous lives and should be the subject of a high-level international probe. “The chronic impunity for violations committed by Indian forces and political nature of the conflict has masked the untold suffering of millions of people,” he added.
“It has been a long pending demand of the people of Kashmir that the international community, OIC member countries and world forums should wake up and take notice of the grave human rights situation in Kashmir and facilitate Kashmiris’s political birth right as promised to them.”
He urged the UN Secretary General and world powers to press New Delhi to stop the bloodshed in Kashmir and resolve Kashmir dispute as per its historical background without any further delay.
