Leisure Leagues School and Academies Football Championships commence

KARACHI: Leisure Leagues Girls and Boys School and Academies Football Championship commenced here at Ibrahim Ali Bhai Government Secondary School Ground in Orangi No.5, Karachi.

In girls’ event, eighth teams namely Unique Star, Ibrahim Ali Bhai School, Orangi Folks Academy, Fatima Islamic School, Beacon Islamic School, Al Marij School and World Grammar are participating.

Each team will play one match on single league basis with every other team in the event.

First round matches have already been played in the tournament. Unique Star has defeated Ibrahim Ali Bhai School 1-0; Orangi Folks Academy beat 1-0 Fatima Islamic School; Beacon Islamic School overpowered Young Scholar 2-0; Al Marij School overcame World Grammar by 2-1.

Similarly, eight boys’ teams are also participating in the tournament. The teams are Ibrahim Ali Bhai School, Young Scholar, Unique Star, Fatima Grammar School, Orangi Folks Academy, Beacon Islamic, World Grammar and Shaheen-e-Pakistan.

In the first round matches of the boys’ event, Ibrahim Ali Bhai School defeated Young Scholar 1-0; Unique Star overcame Fatima Grammer School 1-0; Orangi Folks Academy overpowered Beacon Islamic 3-1 – thanks to Asad’s hat-trick; World Grammar and Shaheen-e-Pakistan match ended in a goalless draw.

International footballer Ghulam Farooq of KPT inaugurated the tournament as chief guest. Shazad Khan and M. Fayyaz were referees while match supervisor was Zakir Khan.

Leisure Leagues is organizing these events at the school level with an aim to promote football at grass-root level.
