Kashmiris have high hopes from Turkey: Hurriyat leaders

In occupied Kashmir, pro-freedom leaders including Syed Ali Gilani and Mirwaiz Umar Farooq have extended congratulations to Recep Tayyip Erdoğan after he emerged winner in the presidential elections in Turkey.

Syed Ali Gilani in a statement issued in Srinagar said, “Our long and painful walk to freedom demands and deserves more practical and concrete steps from every freedom-loving nation especially the collective forum of Muslim countries – OIC – so that there is an end to our sufferings and we are allowed to live an honorable and peaceful life.”

 “We are all praise for Tayyip Erdogan’s moral support to our cause and hope that he will play a pivotal and impressive role for peaceful resolution of the Kashmir dispute,” he added.

Mirwaiz Umar Farooq took to his twitter handle and congratulated Tayyip Erdogan over his victory in the presidential election. “Congratulations to Turkey’s President, an ardent supporter of Kashmiris’ right to self-determination, on winning the presidential elections. Our prayers and best wishes are with the people of Turkey,” he tweeted.

The Mirwaiz said that people of Kashmir and Palestine had high hopes from Turkey as this country had always advocated the resolution of both the issues as per the wishes and aspirations of the peoples of the two regions. He said that Tayyip Erdogan had always taken a stand for Muslims globally.

He said that the people of Kashmir had been suffering on all accounts over the past seven decades witnessing the ultimate form of repression at the hands of lacs of Indian troops. The Mirwaiz said that the issue was already registered with the world’s highest body the UN and in forums like OIC which had time and again passed many resolutions calling for resolving the Kashmir dispute, but the obstinacy of New Delhi, continued to play spoil sport in resolution of one of the longest pending disputes of the world.

Mirwaiz Umar Farooq said it is incumbent upon the world community to intervene to resolve this humanitarian and political dispute to end suffering of the people in Jammu and Kashmir and the prevailing uncertainty in South Asia.

Meanwhile, the Mirwaiz-led Hurriyat forum in a statement strongly condemned the house detention of Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, Syed Ali Gilani and arrest of Muhammad Yasin Malik and Mukhtar Ahmad Waza.
