SRINAGAR: Chairman of All Parties Hurriyat Conference (G) Syed Ali Shah Geelani has said that National Investigating Agency has “failed to prove” anything against the Kashmiri leaders and a businessman, who were arrested for their alleged role in 2016 unrest.

“NIA has failed to prove anything any substantial against Shabir Ahmad Shah, Ayaz Akbar , Nayeem Ahmad Khan, Altaf Ahmad Shah, Peer Saif ullah ,Meraj u Din Kalwal , Farooq Ahmad Dar , Shahid Yusuf, Zahoor Watali. There is no moral or legal justification to keep them under detention,” Geelani said in a statement.

Referring to the prolonged and “unlawful” detention of Masarat Aalam Bhat, Geelani said, “Aalam is languishing in jail since long, however, it is quite disheartening that he is being subjected to political vengeance by state authorities and despite court orders he is not released.”

Geelani expressed serious concern over the deteriorating health condition of Kashmiri detainees in Tihar Jail, New Delhi, and Udhampur, Kathua and Kotbalwal jails.

“Despite their falling health, no medical treatment or care is provided to them,” Geelani said in a statement.

He appealed Amnesty International, Asia Watch, and other international human rights organisations to take cognisance of the plight of these detainees and use influence for their release.

Geelani expressed deep concern over the falling condition of Dr Ghulam Muhammad Bhat, saying that “He is languishing in jail for the last past eight years and is suffering from multiple ailments. Despite his deteriorating condition, no proper treatment is provided to him. His eyesight is badly affected in absence of specific treatment.”

Geelani said, “Ameer Hamza is languishing in jail for the past three years and despite court orders for his release, he is detained in different fake cases.”

Demanding immediate release of all the pro-resistance leaders and activists lodged in different jails, Geelani said, “The continuous detention of these detainees is an attempt to pressurize and intimidate leadership.”
