South African bodybuilding champion Sifiso Lungelo Thabete has died from a freak accident in front of spectators after a failing to perform a celebratory backflip.
In a video that has gone viral on social media, Thabete, former IFBB Junior World Champion in the up to 75kg category, can be seen flexing his muscles as he walks towards the center of the mat at a bodybuilding competition on Saturday in South Africa.
Thabete broke his neck after landing on his head in front of horrified spectators. Worried officials raced toward the athlete when he remained motionless on the mat on Saturday as people continued to cheer around him.
