Major electricity breakdown hits Karachi

A major electricity breakdown pushed more than half part of Karachi into dark here on Tuesday night as 16 grid stations were shut down due to technical fault.

Jasarat representative reported that more than half part of the metropolis is facing power breakdown. K-Electric spokesperson Osama Qureshi confirmed that half of the city up to 30-25 per cent  is facing power failure. He said that the menace was created after closure of two units of Bin Qasim Grid Station while technical experts started maintenance work to restore electricity supplies at earliest.

According to initial report, sixteen grid stations including Lyari and Baloch Colony Grid Stations have shut down due to technical faults. Affected areas include, Saddar, Old City Area, Kemari, Defence, Al-Falah, Gulshan-e-Iqbal, Gulistan-e-Jauhar, Lines Area, Federal B. Area, Baldia Town, Clifton, Shireen Jinnah Colony, Dalmia, Karsaz, Akhtar  and various other.

Mostly trade centres packed with buyers for upcoming Eid-ul-Fitr event are also facing trouble due to suspension of electricity.
