South African skipper AB de Villiers has apologised to his fans, after a disappointing show by his side in the ongoing ICC Champions Trophy.
“It’s been 48 hours since that horrible defeat against India and looking back we just had a horrible time with the bat,” said world no.1 batsman in a video message on social media.
“We are truly and genuinely sorry about the way we performed in this year’s Champions Trophy and we will keep working hard at our game to make it right”, he said.
The statement come after Proteas, ranked as the number one cricket side was out in the first round of the Champions Trophy, after losing to India, in what was a virtual ‘quarter-final’ on Sunday.
He added that it was the low scoring from the batting side, that lead the team down as the bowlers ‘never really’ have ‘the opportunity to defend.’
“We had two low scores against Pakistan and India, we never really gave our bowlers the opportunity to defend those totals, so it’s very disappointing,” he said.
