Maryam Nawaz for taking women out of atmosphere of fear, poverty

ISLAMABAD: Maryam Nawaz Sharif on Monday said that it was necessary to take out women from the atmosphere of fear and poverty and it was responsibility of the society to provide opportunity to women to work together with men.

She was addressing  the inaugural session of three-day International Conference on ‘The Role of Women Parliamentarians in Strengthening Democracy and Social Justice’ organized by Women Parliamentary Caucus in Pakistan.

She added that women were facing many problems including honour killing, physical and mental torture and others. “If women are taken out from the atmosphere of fear and poverty and given proper representation in the Parliament, then they can bring a major change in the society and women parliamentary caucus can play a major role,” he added.

Maryam hailed his mother, saying that she was a role model for her. She declared Malala Yousufzai, Sharmeen Obai Chinoy and Shaheed pilot Maryam Mukhtar as pride of Pakistan.

Maryam Nawaz said Pakistan today has remarkable individuals who have done a great job in different fields like education.

Addressing the conference, Speaker National Assembly Sardar Ayaz Sadiq urged parliamentarians to become torch-bearer of change and harbinger of world of equal opportunities.

He appreciated the role being played by women legislators in the Pakistani parliament.

Sardar Ayaz Sadiq said that almost sixty percent of the National Assembly business is generated by female members.

He said exclusion of women undermines quality of democracy, strengthening of economy, health of the society and sustainable peace.
