Sindh CM orders shifting to ATCs from Clifton to Central jail

KARACHI: Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah, keeping in view the security issues has approved the proposal of shifting of eight Anti-terrorism courts (ATCs) from Clifton to Central Jail Karachi.
He took this decision while presiding over a meeting on security of courts here at the CM House today. The meeting was attended by Chief Secretary Rizwan Memon, Advocate General Zamir Ghumro, Principal Secretary to CM Naveed Kamran Balcoh, Secretary Finance Hassan Naqvi and others.
The chief minister said that the police have given him a report that the movement of under trial terrorists from Central Jail Karachi to ACT courts at Clifton was quite alarming. The police deploy around 1500 policemen for their security.
Chief Secretary Rizwan Memon told the chief minister that out of eight ATC court building six courts have been completed. One court space in the jail is vacant while the space for other one has been made available.
On this the chief minister approving the proposal of shifting the eight ATC courts to Central Jail directed chief secretary to issue the notification for shifting them.
“This is most urged and serious matter and must be taken seriously,” he said.
It may be noted that there are 10 ATCsd courts functioning in Karachi.
The chief minister directed the chief secretary to take necessary measures to provide security to city courts and Malir courts. “I would suggest you to sit with IG police and review the security being given to city courts and Malir courts,” he said and added that a similar instruction may be passed to Commissioner and DIGs to improve security arrangements of the courts and such other establishments.
