ISLAMABAD: Federal Minister for Finance, Senator Mohammad Ishaq Dar made telephonic contacts with more parliamentary leaders on Sunday and discussed with them issue regarding extending the working of military courts for speedy trial of terrorists and emphasized consensus among all the party leaders in this important matter.
The parliamentary leaders who were contacted by the Finance Minister included, Dr Farooq Sattar of Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM), Haji Ghulam Ahmed Bilour of Awami National Party (ANP), Sahibzada Tariqullah of Jamaat-e-Islami (JI), Shah Jee Gul Afridi hailing from Federally Administered Tribal Areas (FATA), Sheikh Rashid Ahmed of Awami Muslim League (AML) and others.
Dar also made telephone call to Speaker National Assembly (NA), Sardar Ayaz Sadiq seeking facilitation for early convening the meeting of special parliamentary committee on the subject of military courts.
The Finance Minister Ishaq Dar said the meeting of the sub-committee of the main parliamentary committee was scheduled for 22nd February and it would be preferable to convene meeting of the main committee the following day i.e. 23rd February, 2017, instead of 27th February as called earlier.
Dar in his conversation with different leaders reiterated that recent spate of terrorist attacks across the country called for a coordinated and fitting response.
Early decision on extension in functioning of military courts was very important as it would strengthen all anti-terror efforts, he said. INP
