TAIPEI: 516 people were injured after fire broke out on a music stage and spread into a crowd of spectators on Saturday night at a Taiwan water park.

Officials said that 180 people were still in intensive care centre. While eight of the injured were reported to be in critical condition.

The flames erupted when the unknown substance blew up over a stage at Formosa Fun Coast. Formosa Fun Coast indicated the fiery explosion occurred during a “Color Play Asia” party put on by a separate marking company that leased out space at the park.

The fire was sparked by an accidental explosion of a colored theatrical powder thrown from the stage in front of about 1,000 people, local media said.
