Karachi :8th May Thalassemia Day. On this day we have extremely serious concern for authorities and masses of not taking Thalassemia seriously and its eradication, said Ateeq Ur Rehman (Executive Director , AMTF).

AMTF is working for 147Thalassemia Free Pakistan148 and he explained that Thalassemia is a self inflicted disease and it spreads due to human error. The treatment of Thalassemic children is very expensive and is out of reach of a common man as they are permanent guests of the hospital. AMTF is not only providing state of the art Cardiac Care to these children but also ICU Services , Blood Bank , Laboratory , Day Care , X-Ray Unit , Dedicated Clinics free of cost which makes it unique and pride of Pakistan.

He added that we have to go out of our way to save the country from this 147Thal Explosion148. The threat of Thalassemia is huge, but unfortunately inadequately addressed. There is a need for the Ministry of Health to put it on the 147priority list148 and address to the issues, which are numerous.

The Provincial Government in their upcoming budget needs to allocate funds for Thalassemia awareness and its treatment. On this Thalassemia day in a country with huge population like Pakistan, can we pledge that we will 147Donate Blood148 to save precious lives of thousands of Thallassemic Children, he urged.

Ateeq said that CSR is like paying back to the society at large, we are extremely thankful to our donors for their support in sustaining the lives of Deprived Thalassemic Children at AMTF.
