61 killed, 120 injured in PTC suicide attacks

QUETTA: At least 61 cadets have been killed and 120 others including personnel of Frontiers Corps (FC) Balochistan injured in terrorist attacks at Police Training Centre, some 13 kilometers off Quetta city, late Monday night.

Home Minister and IG FC confirming the death tolls said three terrorists who stormed into the training centre belonging to Lashkar-e-Jhangvi Al-Aalmi were suiciders.

The doctors at Sandeman Civil Hospital Quetta told to media that 56 bodies of personnel of police and law enforcement agencies were brought at the hospital. Bolan Medical Complex Quetta also confirmed to receive three  bodies.

The Home Minister Balochistan, Mir Sarfaraz Bugti and Inspector General, Frontier Corps Balochistan, Maj-Gen. Sher Afgun said that a compound spread over 12 acres of land and having training capacity for 700 to 800 recruits was attacked by the terrorists on Monday night.

The terrorists first targeted a police personnel deployed at PTC tower and entered the main hostel where 200 cadets were sleeping, they said.

Senior officials said that the Pak Army, Frontier Corps, Police and Balochistan Constabulary took part into the operation which lasted for three hours. All three suicide terrorists had worn the vests.

“Two of them blown them up in the hostel and one was killed by security forces,” they said.

IG FC, said that the terrorists were receiving instructions from Afghanistan.

The police training centre has been cleared and roads passing through the area are open for traffic now.

Emergency was declared at all state-run hospitals in Quetta.

The injured were brought to Civil Hospital Quetta and Combined Military Hospital.

Chief Minister Balochistan, Nawab Sanaullah Khan Zehri who was also supervising the security operation, presided over a high level meeting which was attended by high-ups from the government and law enforcement agencies.

The Governor Balochistan, Muhammad Khan Achakzai and Chief Minister, Nawab Sanaullah Khan Zehri strongly condemned the act of terrorism at PTC.

“We are in state of war on terror. Terrorists cannot defeat us by carrying out act of terror,” the CM Balochistan said, adding that they would continue their war on terror until the end of last terrorists.

The officials said that search operation has been launched in different localities of the provincial capital to trace out and arrest the suspects.
