ISLAMABAD: Minister for Finance and Revenue, Senator Muhammad Ishaq Dar Friday said that 300,000 more needy persons would be enrolled in the Benazir Income Support Programme (BISP) during the fiscal year 2016-17.
In his budget speech, he said the number of BISP beneficiaries would be increased from 5.3 million to 5.6 million.
The minister said the number of registered BISP beneficiaries was 3.7 million in the year 2014-15, 5.3 million in 2015-16 and it would be taken to 5.6 million in the next financial year.
He said financial assistance for each beneficiary had also been enhanced from Rs 12,000 to Rs 18,000 annually.
