27 killed, 34 injured in stampede during religious festival in India

New Delhi: At least 27 people have been killed and 34 others injured in stampede during a religious bathing festival Pushkaralu in India.

The stampede broke out in Rajahmundry, on the border of the twin states of Andhra Pradesh and Telangana, about two hours after the start of the Maha Pushkaralu festival which sees thousands of people bathe in the waters of the Godavari river. While Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed grief over the causalities.
