24 convicted in 2002 Gujarat riots case

A special court in Ahmedabad has convicted 24 people out of the 66 accused for the Gulbarg massacre case. It also acquitted 36 accused in the case.

The case pertains to the 2002 Gulbarg society communal riots, in which 69 people, including former Congress MP Ehsan Jafri, were massacred.

The case was being monitored by the Supreme Court, which gave its nod for pronouncement of the judgment by May 31.

The court delivered the judgment eight months after the trial concluded on September 22 last year.

Meanwhile, the city of Ahmedabad has been put on high alert ahead of the verdict.
