218 stranded Pakistanis in Istanbul arrive home

ISLAMABAD/KARACHI:  As many as 218 stranded Pakistanis in Istanbul safely reached Karachi today (Sunday).

According to a representative of the Pakistani High Commission in Turkey, more than 200 Pakistani nationals were stuck at the Istanbul airport. The representative stated that two flights took the passengers from Istanbul to Karachi and Islamabad.

Earlier, Prime Minister (PM) Nawaz Sharif directed authorities to take measures to ensure the safe return of Pakistani nationals stranded in Istanbul.

PM directed that exclusive flights be arranged for the return of Pakistani citizens who were stuck in the Turkish city of Istanbul following an unsuccessful coup attempt in the country overnight.

Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif instructed the Ministry for Foreign Affairs that the Pakistani embassy staff  present in Istanbul should look after the Pakistanis present in the city and to make sure that they return to the country safe and sound.
