Lawyers announce march on Islamabad against 26th Amendment

The lawyers’ community has announced a march towards Islamabad on February 10 against the 26th constitutional amendment.

In a joint statement of the All Pakistan Lawyers Convention under the Lahore High Court Bar, they demanded the immediate cancellation of the meeting of the Supreme Judicial Council, the formation of a full court on the petitions against the 26th Amendment and the live broadcasting of the hearing on the petition against the amendment.

It has been said in the declaration that until the 26th amendment is decided, new appointments should not be made while the senior judge of the Islamabad High Court should be made the Chief Justice.

The Lahore High Court Bar Convention also condemned the recently passed PICA Act.

Lahore High Court Bar President Asad Manzoor Butt said that he fully supports the struggle of journalists.

Addressing the lawyers’ convention, lawyer leader Hamid Khan said that the lawyers’ movement has started and it will sweep away the 26th amendment. The PECA Act was amended to end the freedom of journalists and lawyers are with journalists at every forum, he added.
