Now Europe will use only USB-C charging type for smartphones

Now only Type C chargers will be used across the Europe, according to the law enforced by the European Union.

The principle of uniform chargers across the members countries was approved by the Council of the European Union in October 2022.

Electronic equipment manufacturers were given a period to adjust their product designs and ensure compliance.

The same charger rules will apply to mobile phones, tablets, digital cameras, headphones, headsets, videogame consoles, portable speakers, e-readers, keyboards, mice, portable navigation systems and earbuds.

However, from April 28, 2026, the Type C charger law will also apply to laptops.

Using the same charger also has many advantages which are as follows:

Customer convenience

People will be able to charge their mobile phones and other similar electronic devices with a single USB-C charger and avoid the hassle of buying and keeping different chargers.

Reduction of electronic waste

Discarded and unused chargers account for approximately 11,000 tons of electronic waste annually. The new rules encourage the reuse of chargers, which helps reduce the environmental impact.

Saving money

People can now buy new electronic devices without a charger. This will help consumers save around 250 million euros annually on unnecessary charger purchases.

Charging speed

The new rules help ensure that charging speeds are the same when using a charger for a device.
