YouTube rolls out

YouTube has introduced a new feature “Play Something” for the convenience of users, which will make it easier for them to find the next video.

The Google-owned video streaming platform has introduced a new option that is useful for users who are unsure of their next video choice.

This feature, known as “Play Something”, is a button (floating action button) that plays videos on YouTube.

It is worth noting that this feature was in testing phase for the past one year and is currently available for Android users on version 19.5.

How does this button work?

This button is on a black background above the Home tab. User can directly enjoy a video without scrolling or searching by selecting this button.

As soon as the button is clicked, this feature starts playing the video through the shorts player.
It is also important to note that this feature is not limited to shorts, it can also play standard videos in portrait mode.

Video controls are simplified, with large Like, Dislike, Comment and Share buttons on the right side. The timeline scrubber below is easy to use. However, if the multiplayer option is enabled, the “Play Something” button will disappear.

This feature automatically selects relevant content based on users’ video viewing habits, eliminating the need for a search process.

YouTube’s move aims to improve user experience and encourage more spontaneous content viewing.

This feature has become widely available and is expected to be publicly launched in the next few months.
