Suspect who killed senior Russian general arrested

Russia said on Wednesday it has arrested a suspect involved in the killing of a senior general in Moscow.

The country’s security service, Federal Security Service (FSB), said the suspect is an Uzbek citizen recruited by Ukrainian intelligence services.

On Tuesday, Lt. Gen. Igor Kirillov was killed by a bomb hidden in a scooter outside his apartment building in Moscow. Kirillov’s assistant also killed in the bomb attack. A Ukrainian official claimed the service carried out the attack.

FSB didn’t reveal the identity of the suspect, but said he was born in 1995.

It claimed that the suspect said himself that he was recruited by Ukrainian special services. AP can’t confirm the conditions under which the suspect spoke to the security services.

The security service said the suspect had been promised $100,000 and permission to move to an European Union country for killing Kirillov.

FSB further said following instructions of Ukraine, the suspect entered into Moscow, where he picked up a homemade explosive device. He concealed the device on an electric scooter, which was parked it at the entrance to the building where Kirillov lived.

Then, the suspect hired a car to monitor the venue and set up a camera that livestreamed the scene to his handlers in the Ukrainian city Dnipro.

The moment, Kirillov was seen leaving the building, he detonated the bomb.

FSB said the arrested suspect faces a sentence of up to life imprisonment.
