Saudi Arabia says Israel undermines Syria's security with buffer zone seizure

Gulf states including Qatar, Iraq and Saudi Arabia have decried Israel’s seizure of land in Syria near the occupied Golan Heights amid Israeli military’s air strikes across the crisis-hit country.

Qatar said it considers the Israeli incursion a dangerous move and a blatant attack on Syria’s sovereignty and unity. It is a flagrant violation of international law, the foreign ministry said.

It further said: “The policy of imposing a fait accompli pursued by the Israeli occupation, including its attempts to occupy Syrian territories, will lead the region to further violence and tension.”

Earlier, Tel Aviv started attacking Syria after the armed opposition toppled the government of former president Bashar al-Assad, who flew to Russia and took asylum.

Saudi Arabia condemned the Israeli moves and said they confirm “Israel’s continued violation of the rules of international law and its determination to sabotage Syria’s chances of restoring its security, stability and territorial integrity”.

The Saudi foreign ministry called on the world community to denounce the Israeli campaign and stressed the Golan Heights is an occupied Arab territory.
