Sindh govt announces holiday on Aug 26 on account of Chehlum

The Punjab government has officially announced a one-week closure of all primary schools and Grades 1 to 5 classes across Lahore in response to increasing smog levels.

This measure aims to protect young children, who are particularly vulnerable to the harmful effects of polluted air.

A notification issued by the Department of Environmental Protection indicated that the decision to close primary schools was based on findings that smog poses a multitude of hazards to young children’s health.

The AQI remains critically high in Lahore, with thick clouds of pollution reported coming from Indian cities such as Jalandhar, Ludhiana, Chandigarh, Bhatinda, and Amritsar, adding to air quality concerns in the region. Lahore, as one of the most polluted cities in the world, continues to grapple with severe air quality challenges, urging residents to take precautionary measures.
