WhatsApp users feel insecure in Pakistan after alarming rise in account hacking complaints

The world’s popular instant messaging and voice-over-IP service is no more safe in Pakistan.

Alarming rise has been seen in the number of complaints of hacking of WhatsaApp accounts in the country during the past few months.

The FIA’s cybercrime wing has received 1426 complaints with regard to hacking of WhatsApp accounts since July 1 this year. This does not include the number of users, whose complaints have gone unregistered.

Taking action, the cybercrime team retrieved 549 accounts while it is processing 877 complaints. FIA has converted 20 pending complaints into regular inquiries.

All the details on the hacked WhatsApp accounts have been submitted to the Senate.  The details have not disclosed on the record of pending complaints.

The 817 pending complaints are currently in the process of verification.
