Roads being cleared in twin cities; mobile phone service restored

The roads leading to the inner city of Rawalpindi has been cleared and opened while mobile phone and internet services have also been restored. However, all entrances to Islamabad are still closed.

The red zone of Islamabad is still fully sealed as containers are also present around D Chowk. Rawalpindi-Islamabad metro bus service remains closed for the third day.

There are currently no protesters in Jinnah Avenue, D Chowk and China Chowk. Fresh troops of police, Rangers and FC are deployed around Islamabad Red Zone and D Chowk.

Mobile phone service has been restored in twin cities.

Meanwhile, security has been on high alert in the garrison town with Punjab policemen deployed at different spots.

The citizens in Islamabad faced inconvenience due to road closures.

Business and trade also remained closed in the capital.

Earlier, Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi has announced 564 people have been nabbed during the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) protests, including 11 plainclothes personnel from the Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (K-P) police.

Naqvi, speaking to the media at D-Chowk, said there was an attempt to storm the capital under the leadership of the K-P Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur to cause casualties. Fortunately, no such incidents took place.

The interior minister said that KP plainclothes officers participated in the protests, marking the first instance in Pakistan where police have been utilised in such demonstrations.

Naqvi added that among those arrested were 11 officers from the K-P police and 120 Afghan nationals.
