Jamaat-e-Islami Pakistan Ameer Hafiz Naeemur Rehman has announced a nationwide strike on September 29.

Speaking to the media after the online emergency meeting of Jamaat-e-Islami leaders in Mansoora, the JI chief said that there will be a nationwide strike on September 29 and a sit-ins will be held on important highways.

He said that the government did not implement the Rawalpindi agreement and gave false statements in front of the media. The rulers took few cosmetic steps in the last 45 days while promising full implementation of the agreement.

The Jamaat-e-Islami does not accept these measures and we demand that the people of the entire country should be given immediate relief on electricity bills, he said.

Hafiz Naeem urged that a uniform tariff should be implemented in the entire country according to the actual production cost of electricity. Similarly, the IPPs contracts should also be terminated and the government should take practical steps instead of making newspaper statements about the contract with IPPs, he added.

The JI leader further said that Jamaat-e-Islami will hold a referendum on the boycott of electricity bills. The options of wheel jam strike and long march towards Islamabad in October are also under consideration.

He added that there will be a public referendum for five days from October 23 to 27. During this time, voting boxes will be placed at all public places. Election commissions will be formed in all provinces for the referendum Students, Mosques, madresahs will be contacted. After that, a wheel jam strike may be announced.
