Lahore's Gaddafi Stadium’s name set to be changed

The name of iconic Gaddafi Stadium Lahore is set to be changed as the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) sold its naming rights.

The contract worth Rs1 billon was won by a Punjab-based bank for the duration of five years. The name of Gaddafi Stadium will be changed to reflect the bank’s name.

The deal saw a significant jumped from previously secured for the naming rights of National Stadium Karachi, by the National Bank worth Rs450 million.

The new administration has thus achieved a deal worth more than double the previous amount. The contract for the National Bank stadium will conclude in 2027.

Currently, the PCB is upgrading three venues, Karachi’s National Bank Stadium, Lahore’s Gaddafi Stadium and Pindi Cricket Stadium in Rawalpindi for the ICC Champions Trophy.

Naming sports stadiums after sponsors is a common global practice, with many cricket venues in Australia and England following this model.

This approach significantly boosts revenue, and the board plans to pursue similar sponsorship deals for additional stadiums in the future.
