Former prime minister Imran Khan and Bushra Bibi challenged their arrest in the Islamabad High Court in the new Toshakhana reference.

On behalf of Imran Khan and his wife Bushra Bibi, Barristers Salman Safdar and Khalid Yusuf filed a petition in the Islamabad High Court in which NAB chairman, NAB DG and other officers have been made parties.

In the petition, it has been argued that the PRI founder and his spouse were investigated and there is no need for arrest. The high court has repeatedly said that no person should be arrested immediately after being nominated, therefore the orders of the high court should also be followed.

It is also said, in the petition, that due to political opposition, the federal and Punjab governments want to keep Imran Khan and Bushra Bibi in custody for a long time.

It is prayed that the arrest of both of them is illegal and orders should be given for their release. It is also requested that arrest in any future case should be subject to the orders of the Islamabad High Court. The government institutions should be barred from arresting the PTI founder and Bushra Bibi without court orders.
