WhatsApp keeps testing different features for its users and now the beta version of app has introduced a new feature for users.
WhatsApp introduced Instant Video Notes in 2023, allowing users to record and send 60-second video messages directly in chat.
According to a report, the messaging platform is now improving this feature to enable instant replies.
The new option has been spotted in the Android beta version of WhatsApp, a development that comes just days after it was revealed that it is also working on a new in-app dialer for the Calls tab.
The latest WhatsApp beta version (2.24.14.5) has introduced a new shortcut for users to quickly and easily reply to video messages.
The new update will be a big step in simplifying video communication within WhatsApp. The new shortcut button will be placed on par with video messages in chats.
Pressing this button will open the recorder, after which a video can be created to send a reply. After this new update, WhatsApp users can avoid navigating to multiple menu items.
Meanwhile, the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has unveiled a new regulatory framework that requires Over-The-Top (OTT) services, including YouTube, Netflix, WhatsApp, Facebook, and Twitter, to register locally for 15 years.
The proposed regulations aimed to bring OTT services under the PTA’s purview, raising concerns among digital rights activists about increased control over online content and potential implications for freedom of speech.
According to the draft framework, OTT services will be categorized into three groups: Communication services, Application services, and Non-Broadcasting Media Services.
If implemented, these services will need to comply with the new authorization framework within 12 months, failing which they will be considered illegal.
