The appointment of vice-captain for the Pakistan team has become an Everest task as now the management has granted the authority to head coach Gary Kirsten for the appointment.

It was reported that former captain Shaheen Shah Afridi had refused to accept the role as Babar Azam’s deputy.

However, the Pakistan Cricket Board issued the clarification that no such offer was made to the pacer with six out of seven selectors were against the idea.

With the T20 World Cup is around the corner, the management has granted Kristen the authority to appoint Babar’s deputy if necessary.

Potential candidates for the vice-captaincy include Mohammad Rizwan, Shadab Khan, and Shaheen Shah Afridi. However, the selectors concluded that it would be more prudent to leave the position vacant.

“It was a better option not to offer the position to anyone for the World Cup,” the report suggests.

“If ever Babar leaves the field or is forced to skip a match, Gary will have the powers to decide on Babar’s deputy to marshal the field,” the source concluded.

Thus, the PCB has left the decision of appointing a vice-captain open-ended, entrusting Kirsten and his team to manage any such needs during the World Cup.
