Reserved seats: ECP directed to revisit returned candidates' notification

Islamabad: The Election Commission has issued warrants for Imran Khan, Asad Umar and Fawad Chaudhry for non-appearance in the contempt case.

A four-member bench headed by Member Election Commission Nisar Durrani heard the contempt of Election Commission case against Imran Khan, Asad Umar and Fawad Chaudhry.

The Election Commission gave a reserved decision on the requests for exemption from the attendance of the party leaders and the chairman.

The Election Commission rejected the request of Imran Khan, Asad Umar and Fawad Chaudhry for exemption from appearance and issued bailable warrants for the three.

The Election Commission adjourned further hearing of the case till January 17.

Yesterday, the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) on Monday served a notice to Jamat-e-Islami Karachi Ameer Hafiz Naeemur Rehman for allegedly violating election code of conduct.

The electoral watchdog served a notice to Hafiz Naeemur Rehman for holding a political rally on Sunday ahead of the second phase of local government elections in Karachi.

Taking notice of the alleged violation, the district monitoring officer of Central issued a notice to the Hafiz Naeem. He also sought a clarification from the JI chief for the Jan 8 political gathering.

As per the Code of Conduct, car rallies, political gatherings and processions are not allowed in local government elections. The ECP has directed Hafiz Naeem-ur-Rehman to appear before the DMO on Jan 11 to explain his position.

JI Karachi Chief Hafiz Naeem-Ur-Rehman is a candidate from North Nazimabad’s Union Council 8 in the coming local government elections.

Meanwhile, the ECP also issued notice to Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) Masroor Ahsan, for violating the Election Act as he held a rally on January 7 at Eidgah Ground, Nazimabad.

It is pertinent to mention here that the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) while rejecting the pleas of MQM-P and the Sindh government has ordered to hold local government (LG) elections in Karachi and Hyderabad on January 15.

The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) announced the reserved decision on holding the repeatedly-delayed local government elections in Karachi and Hyderabad.

The ECP said that the LG polls in Karachi and Hyderabad will be held as per old voters’ lists. The concerned authorities have been directed to make arrangements for the polls.
