LAHORE: The Lahore High Court has issued a brief verdict in the swearing in case of newly elected Punjab Chief Minister Hamza Shehbaz.
Earlier, Chief Justice Lahore High Court Justice Amir Bhatti had reserved the verdict yesterday.
Justice Amir Bhatti in a brief judgment said that there is no government in the province for 25 days, delay in taking oath is unconstitutional. Till tomorrow, the governor of Punjab should take oath from the Chief Minister of Punjab himself or through a representative.
Earlier, PML-N leader Hamza Shehbaz had elected as the new Chief Minister of Punjab.
After the boycott of PTI and PML-Q, the voting process started in the House. Hamza Shehbaz got 197 votes while Pervaiz Elahi got one vote which was cast by PTI member Fayyaz Al Hassan Chauhan.
The meeting of the Punjab Assembly was scheduled to begin at 11:30 am today under the chairmanship of Deputy Speaker Dost Muhammad Mazari.

The bells have been ringing for the assembly members to be called in the house but despite the tight security arrangements, the women government members brought ‘lootas’ with them in the assembly and they started chanting slogans of ‘loota’ which caused a lot of noise in the house.
The Punjab Assembly session resumed after the commotion. However, PTI and PML-Q members have walked out of the Punjab Assembly.
After the boycott of PTI and PML-Q, the process of election of Quaid-e-Awan took place in which Hamza Shehbaz Sharif, candidate of joint opposition in Punjab Assembly was elected as the new Leader of the House with 197 votes, while Pervaiz Elahi did not get any vote.
It may be recalled that according to the orders of the Lahore High Court, the election for the new Leader of the House was to be held in the Punjab Assembly by 12 noon tonight.
