ISLAMABAD: A meeting of the National Security Committee was held under the chairmanship of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif in which former Pakistani ambassador to the US Asad Majeed gave a briefing on the alleged threatening letter.

According to the statement, minutes of the last meeting of the National Security Committee were also presented. The meeting of National Security Committee was also attended by Army Chief General Qamar Javed Bajwa, Chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee, Chiefs of Air Staff and Navy.

The meeting was attended by former Pakistani ambassador to the US Asad Majeed and senior civil and military officials including Defense Minister Khawaja Asif, Interior Minister Rana Sanaullah, Information Minister Marriyum Aurangzeb, Federal Minister Ahsan Iqbal and Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Hina Rabbani Khar.

The statement from the meeting said that the intelligence agencies had investigated the letter and found no evidence of foreign conspiracy. The investigation by the security agencies concluded that there was no external conspiracy. The meeting also ratified the decisions of the last meeting of the National Security Committee.

Former Ambassador of Pakistan to US Asad Majeed briefed the National Security Committee.

The committee discussed the telegram received from the Pakistani embassy in Washington. Asad Majeed gave a briefing on the context and content of his telegram.

According to the statement, the security agencies have informed the National Security Committee that no evidence of conspiracy has been found.
