Lahore: The Lahore High Court restrained the government from buying sugar from sugar mills at Rs80 per kg.
Justice Shahid Jamil Khan of the Lahore High Court heard various petitions of the same type of mill owners.
During the hearing, the court questioned whether the pricing authority belongs to the federation or the provincial government. And can the price be determined without formulating rules?
The court also asked whether the committee set up to determine the price had clarified any procedure as per the law.
The lawyer of the sugar mills pointed out that the federal and provincial governments have not made any law for fixing the prices. The Punjab government issued a letter on April 2 to fix the price of sugar for the sugar mills at Rs80 per kg but the owners of the sugar mills were not heard.
