SC turns death sentence of two mentally disabled convicts into life imprisonment

ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court on Wednesday ordered to convert the death sentence into life imprisonment of two mentally retarded murder convicts.

Justice Manzoor Ahmed heading a five-member bench at the Supreme Court’s Lahore registry heard the review petitions of the two mentally-challenged murder convicts, converting their death penalty into life imprisonments.

The court turned the death penalty of Imdad Ali and Kaneezan BB into life imprisonment and directed to shift them to a mental hospital.

Both the murder convicts were awarded death penalty in a murder case. The court had directed to resend the mercy appeal of one Ghulam Abbas against the capital punishment to the president of Pakistan.
