KARACHI: Following the Tuesday’s cyber attack on the IT system, the K-Electric has requested the customers to get the duplicate bills from their nearest customer centers as an alternate step.
According a spokesperson for the K-Electric, the company as a precautionary measure has separated some services from the main system following the cyber attack on its IT department by the hackers earlier this week. Thus, the customers might face problems in accessing to the duplicate bills on the website.
The KE teams are seeking assistance from the international information security experts to retrieve the company’s data, he added.
He said that the Nepra and the Pakistan Stock Exchange has been informed of the incident.
Meanwhile, the hackers have demanded K-Electric $38 million for returning its data.
Sources said that the hackers have given the KE a deadline of September 15 to pay $38 million if the company wants to take back its data. Failing to pay the money by Sept 15, the amount will be doubled i.e $76 million, they added.
