Karachi: Karachi Mayor Waseem Akhtar while responding to the remarks of Chief Justice of Pakistan said that the court’s displeasure with him was justified but no mayor could work with these resources.
Earlier in the day, during the hearing on the issue of falling billboards in the city at the Supreme Court Karachi Registry, Chief Justice of Pakistan Justice Gulzar Ahmed expressed anger over the mayor of Karachi.
The Chief Justice remarked that if the mayor of Karachi says he has no authority, then he should go home, why he is still mayor.
Talking to media after the hearing, Waseem Akhtar admitted that the court’s anger against him was justified but he did not have the authority to provide water, garbage, transport and master plan and no mayor could work with these resources.
He added that the performance of the provincial government is zero. The Sindh government itself has admitted that it does not has 70 per cent of the land, then, where does 70 per cent of Karachi’s revenue go?
Criticizing the government, he added that the provincial government has ruined Karachi, adding that whoever were in my place could not be satisfied while holding the post.
