MAKKAH: The Saudi government has decided to keep the Masjid al-Haram closed during upcoming Eidul Azha.

According to the Arab media, the Saudi government had made the decision to prevent the spread of the coronavirus.

In this connection, the Saudi officials say that the safety of pilgrims is one of the top priorities in the preparations for this year’s Hajj.

The officials have announced the completion of the first phase of planning for the Hajj, stressing the safety of pilgrims.

Maj. Gen. Muhammad al-Ahmadi, the commander of the security forces at Masjid al-Haram, said that the given the current state of the global epidemic of coronavirus, we have focused this year primarily on health.

He said that the routes for worship between the Kaaba and Safa Marwa have also been determined while only those who have an official permit will be allowed to enter the premises of Masjid al-Haram.
