Islamabad: The parliament on Monday unanimously passed a resolution to teach the Holy Quran with translation at the universities.
Minister of State for Parliamentary Affairs Ali Muhammad Khan moved the resolution in the parliament.
The resolution says the Holy Quran be taught with translation at the varsities where previously it was not being taught in all provinces.
Teaching of the Holy Quran with translation will open new vistas of knowledge for our coming generations, it added.
The resolution was unanimously passed by the parliament.
Last month, in a landmark decision, the Punjab government had made it mandatory to the universities to teach as a separate subject the Holy Quran with translation to the students.
In this connection, the Punjab government had issued a notification.
According to the notification, if a student does not study the Quran with translation then he/she will not be awarded a degree at the university.
It added that the lecturers would teach the Holy Quran with translation to the students at all the universities across Punjab.
The Quran with translation will be taught separately from Islamiat subject at the universities, the notification says.
The chancellor of universities in Punjab, Governor Ghulam Sarwar said that implementation on the guidelines of the Holy Quran could only lead us to a success in this life as well as in the life hereafter.
