PARIS: Over 20 per cent (1.7 billion) of the world population are at risk of becoming severely infected with the coronavirus due to health issues like heart disease and obesity, a latest analysis says on Tuesday.
The coronavirus infection has killed over 420,000 people so far in the world in the first wave.
Experts from the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine have used global data on ailments including lung disease, HIV and diabetes and concluded that about 1.7 billion population of world is at risk of becoming severely infected with the virus infection.
At least one in five people have one of these health issues, putting them at a high risk of severely infected with Covid-19, they found.
About four per cent of the world population (350 million) would likely to require hospital treatment, the experts further said.
