ANKARA: Turkish President Recep Tayyib Erdogan has announced that Ankara would locally develop the ‘favipiravir’, a drug used to treat coronavirus patients.
Addressing a cabinet meeting, the Turkish president said:” Our scientists ate able to prepare the drug. Favipiravir will be available once its registration is completed.”
Favipiravir also known as Avigan has shown effectiveness in reducing the time period of coronavirus in patients. Besides, its also helps improving the lungs condition.
Currently, the drug is being imported from China and being used under a unique protocol in Ankara.
The Turkish president, on the occasion, also announced further easing of lockown restrictions.
He said that the marriage registration halls would reopen on June 15. He added that the wedding halls would reopen on July 1.
