Karachi: Sindh Minister for Industries & Commerce and Cooperative Department & Anti-Corruption Jam Ikramullah Dharejo in his reaction to the news of dismissal of employees of Pakistan Steel Mills, has said that closure of Pakistan Steel Mills would mean economic murder of thousands of families and the federal government needs to reconsider this cruel decision.

In a statement, issued here on Thursday, he said that at a time when the whole world had been going through the same ordeal of coronavirus and Pakistan was also suffering from the same conditions, at a time when there was a need to provide relief to working families, the federal government was causing mental anguish and financial torment to working class.

Dharejo added, ‘ Pakistan Steel Mills is a national asset. Such an institution needs to be activated instead of shutting down. Its activation may generate maximum employment opportunities ‘. He said that PPP condemns the anti-labor policy of downsizing in government institutions at all levels and we demand Federal Government that maximum employment opportunities be provided to reduce unemployment in the country.

The provincial minister said it was unfortunate that the federal government wanted to sell government institutions and corporations to people it liked.
