Coronavirus update: As of Wednesday confirmed cases rise to 60,074 in Pakistan

KARACHI: As of Wednesday (20:30) the total number of confirmed cases of coronavirus has reached 60, 074 while 1,240 died in the country.

After emergence of new cases, Sindh overtook Punjab with 24, 206 confirmed infections.

Over 14,000 patients have recovered so far in the country while 1,240 have lost their lives.

Given below is the province-wide breakup of confirmed cases across country:

• Sindh: 24,206

• Punjab: 21,118

• Khyber Pakhtunkhwa: 8,483

• Balochistan: 3,536

• Islamabad Capital Territory: 1,879

• Gilgit-Baltistan: 638

• AJK: 214

Globally, over 350,000 people have died from the pandemic.

Recently, after no new virus cases and zero deaths in three weeks, China had put the risk level to a low from high in all the areas of the country. Linkou county was the last region where the risk level has been downgraded to a low. The county had reported spike in virus cases recently.

Earlier, Wuhan welcomed the high school children as the city opened the schools that were closed since January in the wake of coronavirus pandemic.

The schools have been opened with strict precautionary measures. Thermal scanners have been erected at the entrances of the schools. The students and teachers have been advised to wear face masks. Student have been allocated individual desks spaced a meter apart. Officials said that all the school staff and students had tests before joining the academic session. The school premises were also disinfected, they added.

Over all 121 high schools have been opened in the city. The Chinese education ministry said that the date for the opening of primary and middle schools would be announced later.
