Karachi: Renowned haematologist Dr Tahir Shamsi on Tuesday began the process of taking plasma from the blood of recovered coronavirus patients for passive immunisation to treat Covid-19 patients.
Dr Shamsi said that the process had been started with the approval of the federal and the provincial governments.
We have already obtained an approval from the Drug Regulatory Authority of Pakistan (Drap) and other concerned departments.
He said that the work would also start on collecting plasma in Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa from next week.
The doctor treating a patient will decide whether he is needed the plasma or not, he added.
