SRINAGAR:  Indian police in Srinagar on Friday opened fire on a protest rally against arrest of hurriyat leader Musarat Alam, injuring 14 Kashmiris.

Indian police also resorted to shelling and baton charge on the participants of the rally.

The rally was taken out in leadership of All Parties Hurriyat Conference (APHC) leader Mirwaiz Umar Farooq to protest against arrest of Musarat Alam on Friday morning.

It is pertinent to mention here that on Thursday Musarat Alam was put on house arrest on charges of hoisting Pakistani flag and chanting slogans in favor of Pakistan in a rally.

Alam had planned the Friday rally in Tral, 40 km south of Srinagar, where a civilian was killed in firing by Indian security forces three days ago. The Indian-run state government, however, denied permission for the Friday congregation.
